Charter Celebrates Pride Month with Groundbreaking LGBT Films On Demand

In honor of National Pride Month, our video customers will have access to a collection of groundbreaking films that explore some of the obstacles faced by the LGBT community. Customers can access the complete collection by tuning to their On Demand channel and selecting “Pride Month.” The category will be available until June 30

“Milk”

Starring Sean Penn, this 2008 film focuses on the life of politician Harvey Milk, who was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California. The film chronicles Milk’s political journey and his struggles fighting for gay rights. Penn won the Academy Award® for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his depiction of Milk, and the film also won the Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay.

“Moonlight”

“Moonlight” won three Academy Awards® this year, including Best Picture. The coming-of-age drama follows a young, gay, black man as he matures from childhood to adulthood in a rough Miami neighborhood. “Moonlight” also won Oscars® for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

“Philadelphia”

“Philadelphia,” released in 1993, was one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to acknowledge the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and tackle the subject of homophobia. The film tells the story of a lawyer pursuing a wrongful dismissal suit. It was nominated for five Academy Awards® and picked up two – for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Music, Original Song.

“The Kids Are All Right”

This romantic-comedy centers on a lesbian couple who have two children conceived by artificial insemination. The kids pursue their biological father, and the story takes off from there. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards® and won a Golden Globe® for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.

“Transamerica”

"Transamerica" is among our Pride Month offerings.

“Transamerica” shares the journey of Bree, a transgender woman, portrayed by Felicity Huffman. The story plays out on a road trip with a son she discovers she had fathered 17 years earlier. Huffman won a Golden Globe® for her performance, and received an Academy Award® nomination.
