Charter Names Donald Cravins Jr., Vice President, Policy and External Affairs

STAMFORD, Conn. – Charter Communications, Inc. today announced that Donald Cravins, Jr. will join the company as Vice President, Policy and External Affairs. In this role, Cravins will be responsible for building partnerships with external stakeholders to further shared policy objectives. He will report to Rachel C. Welch, Senior Vice President, Policy and External Affairs, and will be based out of Charter’s offices in Washington, D.C.

“I am pleased to announce that Donald Cravins, Jr. is joining our team as Vice President, Policy and External Affairs,” said Welch. “As an attorney, civic leader, and former elected official, Don’s outstanding background  and impressive track record in shaping public policy will be an invaluable asset to our Policy and External Affairs organization at Charter.”

Cravins joins Charter from leading civil rights organization the National Urban League, where he served as Senior Vice President for Policy and Executive Director of the Washington Bureau. At the National Urban League, Cravins oversaw the development of the National Urban League’s policy, research, and advocacy agenda, expanding the organization’s impact and influence inside the Capital Beltway.

Cravins has been a practicing attorney and a member of the Louisiana Bar Association since 1998. In 2004, he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, and in 2006, Cravins was elected to the Louisiana Senate. During his tenure in the Louisiana Senate, Cravins became heavily involved in post-Hurricane Katrina issues as the Chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee and an active member of the Juvenile Justice Commission of Louisiana.

In January of 2009, Cravins left the Louisiana Legislature to serve as Staff Director and Chief Counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. In January of 2013, Cravins began serving as Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana.

In addition to his other work, Cravins is an adjunct professor at The George Washington University where he has taught Independent Research and Intellectual Property in the College of Professional Studies and Judicial Politics in The Graduate School of Political Management. He also serves as a Major in the District of Columbia Army National Guard Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps and is a Board Member of the Louisiana Youth Seminar.

Cravins holds a B.A. in Political Science from Louisiana State University, as well as a J.D. from the Southern University Law School.
