New Software Defined Networking (SDN) / Network Function Virtualization (NFV) platform enables the deployment of innovative services today and into the future
STAMFORD, Conn. – Spectrum Enterprise, a part of Charter Communications, Inc., today announced the national availability of its Managed SD-WAN service with the unique capability of stitching together SD-WAN networks and Ethernet networks. The Managed SD-WAN service is designed and delivered using a next generation, software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) platform that is integrated into the Spectrum Enterprise fiber network across the United States.
The Managed SD-WAN service covers the entire implementation — from solution design and white-glove installation to portal-based network visibility and dedicated, 24×7 monitoring and support. The service is available in a number of configuration options to meet enterprise clients’ needs, including Layer 3, Layer 2 and Hybrid service configurations along with the ability to use and optimize multiple connections at each site. Additionally, an integrated, virtual security service is available for clients who want to enable secure Internet access with their Managed SD-WAN service.
“Our new Managed SD-WAN service delivers on our promise of choice and flexibility by enabling enterprises to grow and evolve their networks via our next-generation SDN/NFV platform,” said Greg King, Senior Vice President, Product, Marketing and Strategy, Spectrum Enterprise. “Not only does this platform allow clients to securely integrate existing network sites and SD-WAN sites, it also enables us to rapidly deploy new capabilities for additional use cases and future network solutions.”
Key Features and Benefits
With this fully-managed service, Spectrum Enterprise provides enterprise clients a supported journey to deploy SD-WAN more easily by offering choices for flexible solution design, service configurations and implementation pacing based on specific enterprise client and network requirements.
The Spectrum Enterprise Managed SD-WAN service delivers the following features and benefits:
- Managed SD-WAN and connectivity bundles: Choose from several, best in class connection options for the Managed SD-WAN service;
- Application visibility and prioritization: Optimize the use of multiple connections at each location through traffic steering for the best application performance over the SD-WAN;
- Integration with existing Ethernet networks: Use hybrid SD-WAN options to change and grow current, mission critical Ethernet networks;
- Management portal: Gain visibility and control of the service;
- Integrated virtual security: Secure the SD-WAN service access to the Internet with this add-on option.
SDN/NFV Virtualized Platform
Spectrum Enterprise has taken a unique approach to its network architecture for the delivery of its WAN portfolio and deployed a virtualized, edge compute platform that is integrated into its fiber network across its national footprint. This platform is highly available, scalable and geo-redundant, and enables efficient delivery of high performance WAN solutions and managed network services with low-latency access from any client location.
The Spectrum Enterprise Managed SD-WAN service incorporates technologies from: Cisco for services orchestration; Fortinet for virtual security solution; Netcracker for VNF management and Nokia’s Nuage Networks for the SD-WAN technology.
The Spectrum Enterprise Managed SD-WAN Service is available nationally with simplified pricing and bundles with multiple connection options. For more information, visit here.
Award-winning Client Implementation
For its “store front” public safety office, the Town of Addison wanted direct connectivity into its existing Ethernet network and a solution that could add new, off-net locations into the existing Ethernet network. The Spectrum Enterprise Managed SD-WAN attracted the Town of Addison’s attention due to this ability to add new locations and how well it aligned with the Town’s goals for future growth. Additionally, by linking the “store front” location into the network, the Town could eliminate the deployment and management of client IP VPNs at that location.
“As we worked with Spectrum Enterprise through the field trial, we appreciated how they incorporated our feedback into their Managed SD-WAN service,” said Hamid Khaleghipour, Interim Deputy City Manager / Executive Director of Business Performance and Innovation, Town of Addison. “We are excited by the availability of a WAN solution that lets us choose an Ethernet service or an SD-WAN with Ethernet stitching capability to build and migrate to next gen services at our own pace.”
