NEW YORK – Spectrum Networks today announced veteran programming and content executive Helen Swenson has been named Vice President, Content, Spectrum News NY1. Swenson will oversee all content development, programming and news efforts, including the strategic planning, creation and execution for Spectrum’s Emmy Award-winning news network, NY1. Swenson will relocate to New York City and begin her role on February 10.

“Helen is a dynamic and talented executive with deep industry experience leading linear and digital content in broadcast and local news,” said Dan Ronayne, Senior Vice President, Spectrum News, Northeast. “Her leadership and proven success of developing news programming, innovative content, creating growth and managing the day-to-day operations will be invaluable as we continue to build upon NY1’s successes.”

A native New Yorker, Swenson has more than 30 years of combined experience in programming development and content creation in news, weather and entertainment. Most recently, she served as Program Developer and Executive Producer for TEGNA where she worked on several TV show pilots, including the creation and launch of a nationally distributed daytime talk show “Sister Circle.” Prior to joining Tegna in 2016, she was President and General Manager for the CBS affiliate WIAT-TV in Birmingham, Alabama.

“I’m honored to join the very talented and award-winning team at NY1,” said Swenson. “I look forward to working with the entire group of esteemed journalists to cover the local stories that New Yorkers have come to rely on, as well as developing more opportunities to engage viewers with high-quality local shows and programming across all platforms.”

Additionally, Swenson spent four years (2009-2013) as Senior Vice President of Live Programming for The Weather Channel. In her leadership role, she managed all aspects of live programming production, content and coverage for the network and led the successful launch of several shows, including “Wake up with Al” with NBC’s AL Roker, “Your Morning Rush” and “Weather Center Live.” She also spent two years as a senior consultant for Frank N. Magid Associates, and six years as the News Director for KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington from 2001- 2007.
