New York, NY – Spectrum News NY1 (NY1) today recognized 15 local high school student athletes with $1,000 scholarships each at the network’s annual Scholar Athlete luncheon held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall.
The 2019 student athlete scholarship recipients were recognized for excelling in academics, athletics, and volunteer service in their local communities. Each of the students was awarded a scholarship to be used toward tuition, room and board, or books. Spectrum News NY1 endowed scholarships to student athletes from Manhattan (2), Queens (5), Staten Island (2), Brooklyn (4) and the Bronx (2).
“We are pleased to recognize these talented student athletes who have excelled on many fronts but also give back to their local communities,” said Dan Ronayne, Senior Vice President of Spectrum News NY1. “We congratulate them on their achievements and wish them continued success as they move on to college in the fall.”
In addition to the ceremonial luncheon, NY1 has featured the profile of each student on the network since December 2018. The profiles of this year’s scholarship recipients are available at https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/scholar-athlete. The Scholar Athlete program began in 1999.
NY1 airs on channel 1 on Spectrum, and on channel 8, 64 or 98 on Altice systems.
